Recently, I learned that if you have a gluten sensitivity, coffee might be bad for you. Apparently, there is a protein in coffee (including decaf!) that can have the same kind of effect on your body as gluten. Not what this gluten-free-java-loving mom wants to hear. But, I decided to quit coffee for a bit, see if there’s any changes in how I feel, and do some research.
In the mean time, my morning routine had quite a void, which I have since filled with tea. I decided that if I’m going to drink tea, I’m going to drink good tea. So I was delighted to find a purveyor of fine, loose leaf teas at The Trail of Courage festival this weekend. I purchased some Ceylon and a very intriguing blend called Caribbean Blue Lady, which has notes of coconut cream, strawberry and kiwi.
Morning was a long time coming and I couldn’t wait to try that exotic blend. It has a subtle flavor and lovely aroma. Not like my beloved deep, dark and lovely coffee…but, this is tea we’re talking about here. It is more delicate. I love the beautiful blue leaves in this blend. My grandmother passed on her love of tea to me, and I love to reminisce about having tea with grandma in her fancy china tea cups.
I suppose easing gently into the day with a delicate cup of tea is a good thing. Maybe I would be more calm throughout the day if I didn’t dump rocket fuel into my tank first thing in the morning. Even though mornings are not really my favorite time of day, I am looking forward to savoring these teas and reading the Word to start my day.
What about you? Coffee or tea in the mornings? What is your favorite way to drink it?

Makes me smile when I think you might be using those tea cups from those years ago.

I use those for special occasions! They’re not quite big enough for the amount of tea I need to get me going in the morning lol. Apparently, tea has significantly less caffeine than coffee 😉
