The older I get the more I’m loving spice in my foods.
I mean the kind with heat. The hotter the better! My family thinks I’m getting a little loco in the cabesa but whatever. They don’t eat the spicy stuff so there’s more for me, it’s working out pretty well actually. Like this Spicy Sour Cream Sauce that I made for Taco Night this week…I didn’t really want to share it.
This is so simple I hate to even call it a recipe. But, I carefully measured so I could post it here on the blog. All two ingredients, even.
In spite of its simplicity, it is flavorful and delicious!
The hot spiciness is balanced by the creaminess of the sour cream. It’s a perfect compliment to tacos made with Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix.
See that gloriously red pepper up there by those yummy tacos?
That is a Bhut Jolokia chili pepper. Also known as the Ghost Pepper. They used to be the hottest peppers in the world, coming in at 1,000,000 Scoville heat units (compared to a Jalapeno at 2500-8000). Now there’s something called a Carolina Reaper that is at least twice as hot as the Ghost Pepper. That is seriously spicy.
I didn’t eat that pepper with my tacos, but I did make Ghost Pepper Jelly with eight of its cousins. And loved it. My family really thinks I’ve lost my mind. I just found this great post on Ten Ways Hot Peppers Help You Be Healthy and Lose Weight and I think I’m absolutely in my right mind.
Do not fear, though, this Spicy Sour Cream Sauce does not have anything as hot as a Ghost Pepper or Carolina Reaper in it. But, it’s still nicely spicy!
As I prepared it initially, it would be an S style sauce for those following the Trim Healthy Mama plan. You can easily make it suitable for E or FP by substituting 0% Greek Yogurt.
Spicy Sour Cream Sauce
ingredients
- 1/4 c sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1-2 Tbs Sriracha sauce, more or less to taste
method
Combine thoroughly in a bowl. If you’re not sure how spicy you’d like it, start out with a little and add more until it’s just right. I could have put another tablespoon or two in this but decided to go with this. I can always add more Sriracha sauce later if I want more heat.
Sriracha sauce is a spicy chili and garlic sauce commonly found with the Asian condiments at your grocery store. You can also find it at Asian markets, or order it from Amazon by clicking here and enjoy the convenience of home delivery.
