Yesterday, I saw this post in the Trim Healthy Mama group for a “detoxing” Egg Nog drink. Boy did that sound good! I looked at the recipe but didn’t have all the ingredients.
But I want the Nog.
And I want the Nog right now.
So, I did what I always do in such situations. I threw some stuff together until it tasted like I wanted it to.
So, without further ado…here is my adaptation of that creamy, dreamy deliciousness:
Why I Like this Easy 6 Ingredient Hot Custard Nog
I mentioned that I saw a recipe and that inspired this version. The original recipe can be found here, and if you’re not familiar with Briana Thomas’ blog you should check it out! She has lots of great recipes and beautiful photos.
The necessity to “tweak” her recipe came from the fact that I did not have whey protein, rum extract or glucomannan. Xanthan gum can be used in place of the “gluccie” but I’m not crazy about the texture that results – it is often slimy. I’m also not crazy about using artificial flavorings, but that’s my thing. If I had some actual rum in the house I would have added a splash of that but I didn’t have that either.
Starting to sound like Mother Hubbard up in here.
My version is probably more for the purist…or for someone who is out of Trim Healthy Mama staples. It’s super easy to whip up and oh so satisfying to sip!
This hot custard nog would be considered a Deep S kind of thing…lots of healthy fats to flush out any carby overindulgences you may find yourself experiencing over the holidays.
